Just about a month away

We are just a little more than a month away from gathering in the Bayou City to mark the 10th Anniversary of the Houston Post closing. Remember it's Saturday, April 23.

A lot has happened since we last communicated with everyone. If you have not RSVP'd to the e-vite, please do so soon so we have a fairly good count to give our reception host -- The Cadillac Bar (more on that in a second).

If you are having trouble opening the e-vite, please just respond to this message and we will add your name to the master list. We want to make sure everyone knows what all is happening on Saturday, April 23.

At 10:30 a.m., a panel discussion -- "How Media Coverage Has Changed in Houston Since 1995" -- will take place at the Jungman Branch/Houston Public Library at 5830 Westheimer. Ron Stone will moderate the program. Panelists include Susan Bischoff, associate editor of The Houston Chronicle; John Beddow, publisher of The Houston Business Journal; David McHam, University of Houston journalism professor; and Nancy Sims, political consultant. A couple of invites are still out so there might be a name or two added to the panel before we gather on the 23rd of April.

The BIG EVENT, the reception, will start at 7 p.m. at The Cadillac Bar/Laredo Room, 1802 Shepherd Drive. There will be food and a cash bar. If you are planning on attending the reception, please send a check (if you have not done so already) for $25 per person to Eileen O'Grady, 12111 Olympia, Houston, Texas 77077.

A possible commemorative item has been developed: a Tote bag with a T-shirt bearing The Houston Post masthead. The cost is $20 per bag/shirt. We need to know if there is enough interest to place an order (there is a minimum lot we have to buy). Please let us know ASAP if you would be interested in the Tote/T-shirt. If so, you can pay for it at the reception on April 23.

Did you get an e-vite?

More than 220 e-vites have been distributed. Forty-three have RSVP'd they plan on showing up, while there are seven maybes and 11 can't make its as of 9:30 p.m. on 3/2/05.

If you haven't RSVP'd for the reception, yet, please let us hear from you soon so we can lock in a location.

Thanks everyone for all the help getting invitations out. We are downloading the list to an Excel file so we will have it for future use.

Please note on the e-vite that we have changed the reception start time to 7 p.m. on April 23. We are still trying to accommodate everyone, so this might change again.

The panel discussion is still waiting on word from two people on whether or not they will participate. We are closing in on a site for the program, but we're still debating a morning or afternoon start time (thanks for your comments on that Lynn A). The Rev. Bill Lawson regretfully declined our invitation to participate because he is conducting a wedding ceremony in Atlanta that day.
