Felton West in hospital

Dear Fred:

While all of us were enjoying the reunion Saturday night, Felton West was being admitted into the North Austin Medical Center. He has begun treatment for lung and brain cancer.

I saw Felton last night and he was in great spirits - telling jokes, kidding nurses and jabbering on the phone. I took the pictures of the old Houston Post from the blogsite, and he and Jean loved pouring over the photos. In the 1953 pics showing Felton on the desk, he was attending UH during the day and working nights. Jean worked in the same building in the Post advertising department. They remembered living in a nearby rooming house and sharing a bathroom with two other couples (wow!).

Plez tell folks that Felton loves hearing from old friends. For now, his hospital phone is 512/901-5407.

At the reunion, several people asked if Felton is still on the Liberty Hill city council. His two-year term ended, but he continues to be a thorn in the side of the old-boy establishment. He recently appeared before the council to protest passage of a zoning ordinance that had not been made public before the vote. Go get 'em, Felton.
